It Is now three years since the opening of Dashwood Manor, a 70-bedroom care home in Basingstoke, delivered for @HamberleyDevelopment and operated by @CareUK. This project presented RDT Architects with the opportunity to create a high-quality care environment that seamlessly integrates diverse facilities such as a café, pub, cinema, hair salon, and accessible outdoor spaces—all while ensuring the design supports residents' care, health, and wellbeing.

Challenge:
The project was part of a broader mixed-use masterplan, including a 42-unit extra care development, dental surgery, public house, and a neighbouring 28-bedroom specialist care facility for @HamberleyNeurocare. The challenge was to maintain architectural integrity and operational efficiency across multiple buildings and phases, each with distinct user requirements.

Approach:
As lead architect for @HamberleyDevelopment, we took a holistic approach, overseeing the entire project from inception to completion. We collaborated closely with the professional teams representing other building users and facilitated a cohesive design approach to achieve a unified design approach for the planning application, ensuring a consistent design ethos across all phases. Our role continued into the construction phase, where we worked with the main contractor, @HighwoodConstruction, as Principal
Designer.

Result:
The outcome is a beautifully designed, operationally efficient care home that has received positive feedback from @CareUK. The successful delivery of Dashwood Manor exemplifies our ability to navigate complex planning landscapes, orchestrate collaboration among diverse stakeholders, and deliver high-quality results within a phased development framework.
