Exciting Planning News from the Heart of Historic Spalding!
We’re delighted to announce that planning permission has been granted for a new 86-bedroom care home in Spalding upon a site of exceptional character located within the towns Georgian centre and designated conservation area.
The site sits adjacent to the Grade I listed St Mary and St Nicolas Church and fronts onto a historic watercourse - part of Spalding’s traditional fenland drainage system. With a steep topography and such a sensitive setting, the design demanded a highly contextual and responsive approach.
RDT led the feasibility and planning process, working closely with South Holland District Council to ensure the scheme respected the site’s heritage and environmental constraints. The resulting design draws from the Georgian vernacular, with a form and materiality that harmonise with the conservation area and the adjacent church.
The care home will also feature landscaped gardens and outdoor spaces that respond to the site’s natural gradient, enhancing the experience for residents and visitors while integrating with the surrounding townscape.
This development will provide essential care for the Spalding community and stands as a testament to thoughtful, place-sensitive design.
