We are proud to announce that RDT are finalists in the Property & Construction Project of the Year category of the Inspiring Herts Awards run by Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Oventrop for the new Nursing Home in Broxbourne for Hertfordshire County Council and Gold Care Homes.

Broxbourne Nursing Home is part of a 3.6 acre redevelopment on the site of a former primary school. RDT Architects were part of the wider masterplan design of the project, which includes 13 residential dwellings and they were involved throughout the conceptual design, planning, and construction phases, as well as being retained as architectural design advisors on behalf of Hertfordshire CC during the construction phase.

The 77-bed home features clustered household living groups surrounding a central courtyard garden, with communal facilities including a cafe, lounges, activity room and hair salon opening out over gardens, terraces, and balconies. Bedrooms feature en-suite wet rooms, and the home also offers bariatric care with specialist rooms and equipment.

The modern form of architecture has been carefully designed to reflect the needs of a modern care home in terms of function while also respecting the suburban context within which it must blend. The naturalised setting alongside the New River allows residents to engage with wildlife and ecology habitats within the river corridor from the variety of external gardens and first floor balconies. The environment has been designed to cater for residents living with a variety of cognitive and physically challenging conditions.
One of the key factors within this new care home development was to provide a flexible design in the spaces created which allows the architecture to respond to changing needs identified by the care operator, while enabling the home to deliver modern forms of care as innovation in the sector continues over future years.

The Inspiring Hertfordshire Awards were launched in 2012 to focus on and celebrate the expertise, achievements and outstanding contribution that businesses and individuals continually make to the growth of the county and enable Herts businesses to showcase their performance and achievements.
