A Landmark in Harpenden’s Architectural Landscape

Reflecting on the Gleneagle Manor apartments project, completed in 2016 for @JarvisHomes, we're reminded of its significant contribution to Harpenden’s architectural heritage. This luxury development, designed in the traditional Georgian style, stands as a symbol of elegance and tradition.

Challenge:
The project involved redeveloping a locally listed former hotel site in a conservation area, requiring us to balance the preservation of heritage with the demands of modern luxury living. The challenge was to design 26 luxury apartments across two new buildings that would seamlessly integrate with the historical context of Harpenden while offering contemporary amenities.

Approach:
RDT Architects provided comprehensive architectural design services, paying homage to the area’s Georgian heritage. Our design approach focused on blending classical aesthetics with modern functionality. High ceilings, large windows, and carefully selected materials were incorporated to reflect the grandeur of Georgian architecture while ensuring the interiors exuded elegance and openness. We also included a basement car park to meet modern requirements without compromising the site’s historical value.

Result:
Gleneagle Manor has become a landmark in Harpenden, harmonising beautifully with its conservation area surroundings and mature tree landscaping. The project has been recognised with several accolades and awards, marking a milestone in the town’s architectural history. It also established a strong, ongoing partnership between Jarvis Homes and RDT Architects, one that continues to shape the future of Harpenden’s architectural landscape.
