Planning Approval Granted on Appeal for 75-Bed Care Home in Hoddesdon
We’re delighted to share that planning permission has been granted on appeal for a 75-bed care home in the Broxbourne Green Belt - a scheme designed by RDT Architects.
Despite being recommended for approval by officers, the application was initially refused by the Council’s planning committee. The Planning Inspector, however, concluded that while the proposal constituted inappropriate development in the Green Belt, the harm was clearly outweighed by other material considerations. These included the site’s sustainable location, its classification as grey belt, the pressing need for specialist care provision, and the absence of alternative sites. Importantly, part of the site was previously developed, and the design was found to cause no harm to the character or appearance of the area.
Our architectural approach focused on delivering a high-quality, purpose-built care environment that responds sensitively to its setting while meeting the growing demand for specialist accommodation.
It’s been a pleasure collaborating with DLA Town Planning Ltd, Harniss Building Services Solutions, TPM Landscape, Andrew Belson, Infrastruct CS Limited, and Crossman Associates Ecology on this successful outcome.
We look forward to seeing our design come to life and continuing to support the care sector with thoughtful, sustainable architecture.
