Melksham Site Visit: Proposed New Care Home
During a recent visit to the proposed new care home in Melksham, Scott saw first-hand how the scheme is being shaped to support wellbeing, choice, and a strong sense of community for future residents.
This 86-bedroom care home is designed over 3-storeys with the entrance offering a lively central hub, connecting key spaces such as the café, reception, celebration room and hair salon, to encourage social interaction and easy wayfinding for residents, staff and visitors.
RDT worked with the client to revisit the original planning-approved design, refining the scheme to better align with our client’s requirements and the needs of potential operators.
The layout has been developed to balance privacy and connection, with shared social spaces located close to the central hub and private accommodation arranged further away to support both independence and a welcoming, homely environment.
Scott was pleased to see “great progress on site with the roof trusses fitted and the tiling and first fix to the upper floors progressing well”.
Working alongside Aspire LPP and specialist care contractor Lawrence Baker, our focus has been on practical, buildable solutions that protect design intent while strengthening quality through the technical stages. The aim is a care environment that is comfortable, flexible, and supportive for residents and the teams who care for them.
Once complete, the new care home will provide flexible, comfortable environments with high-quality facilities and choice, helping create a place where residents feel truly at home.
