Throwback Thursday: Project Highlight
05/09/2024
It's hard to believe it's been four years since we completed the Aylesbury Waste Transfer Depot for Buckinghamshire Council (formerly Aylesbury Vale District Council). This project was more than just a redevelopment; it was about turning a vision into reality through collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation.
Challenge:
We were tasked with transforming a vacant commercial site into a state-of-the-art waste transfer facility that could serve over 88,000 households. This complex project required addressing significant challenges, including designing for flood resilience and implementing specialised fire detection and suppression systems to protect local watercourses.
Approach:
RDT Architects worked closely with Morgan Sindall, the consultant design team, and our supply chain partners to navigate this project from planning and tender through to construction. Our approach emphasised teamwork and dedication to problem-solving, ensuring every detail was managed with precision. We developed innovative solutions to integrate a vehicle repair and MOT workshop, a waste transfer station for recycling and food waste, and upgraded external areas with new parking provisions.
Result:
The result was a modern, efficient facility that has become a crucial hub for waste collection vehicles, enabling the transfer of recyclable materials that are sent to Leicester for sorting, separating, and creating new products. This redevelopment not only enhanced local waste management operations but also supported environmental sustainability by improving recycling processes.
