Topping Out Milestone at New Melksham Care Home

Scott Smallwood was delighted to celebrate a major milestone at the new care home development in Melksham, where the topping out ceremony marked completion of the building’s envelope, which is now watertight.

The new purpose-built care home, being developed for The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) Trust, is set to provide 80 beautifully designed en-suite bedrooms and will offer high-quality residential, dementia and nursing care within a modern, welcoming and sustainable environment.

RDT Architects are proud to be working with specialist care contractor Lawrence Baker Ltd on the delivery of this important scheme, which is designed to support residents’ wellbeing, independence and connection. The home will include a range of thoughtfully planned facilities, including private dining areas, a cinema room, gym, activities room, hair salon and a dedicated family suite for overnight stays.

Appointed from Workstage 4, our team has taken a proactive and collaborative approach to revisit and refine the planning-approved design, helping to ensure the final scheme aligns with the client’s aspirations, the future operator’s requirements and the practical demands of construction.

Sustainability has also been central to the design, with the home planned to operate entirely on electricity, supported by energy-efficient systems, solar panels, EV charging points, accessible landscaped gardens and measures to enhance biodiversity across the site.

This milestone is a testament to the hard work, technical expertise and collaboration of everyone involved. We look forward to seeing the project continue to progress towards welcoming its first residents in 2027.
