A Throwback to Breakspeare Community Pre-School, Abbots Langley: Transforming Early Years Education
An award-winning project we're proud to have delivered in partnership with Mace for Hertfordshire County Council.
In 2010, RDT Architects was proud to collaborate with Mace and Hertfordshire County Council on the new Breakspeare Community Pre-School in Abbots Langley - a key part of Hertfordshire County Council’s Early Years Programme. This project holds a special place in our portfolio as it exemplifies the impact thoughtful, community-focused design can have on young learners and their families.
The Challenge:
Breakspeare Community Pre-School required expanded and improved facilities to accommodate a growing intake and enhance its learning environment. The task involved integrating modern design within the context of the existing school structure - while meeting the County Council’s rigorous standards for early years settings.
Our Approach:
Working closely with Mace and Herts CC, our team developed sensitive and sustainable architectural solutions that respected the existing environment while introducing contemporary, child-friendly spaces. From new classroom buildings and extensions to stimulating outdoor play areas, each element was designed with the needs of early childhood development at its core.
The Result:
The completed facility delivered much more than additional space - it created a vibrant, inclusive hub for early years education and family support. The project was recognised for its design excellence and a model for community-based educational architecture.
This was more than just a building project - it was an investment in future generations - a nurturing and inspiring environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive and truly rewarding community project.
